The pedestrian promenade was once part of a military fortress known as La Batería, and two cannons remain to remember its defensive past, alongside a statue of the late king Alfonso XII who named this balcony after the big earthquake that hit Nerja in 1884. TAKE AN INTREPID WALK ALONG EL SALTILLO BRIDGE!.. In the gorge which connects the towns of Sedella and Canillas de Aceituno, is one of the three biggest hanging bridges in Spain. The 50 metre long El Saltillo bridge is suspended over the river Almanchares, offering incredible views of the surrounding natural landscape. It connects part of the Canillas de Aceituno hiking trail, a spectacular route covering areas of the natural park, ravines and rugged mountains.
